There are several ways to acquire an accurate square footage for your basement. If the space is a huge rectangle its easy by just multiplying the length measurement by the width measurement to attain the area or L X W=A.
If the space is more complicated then break it down into a group of smaller squares or rectangles. This will allow you to account for complicated foundation plans while maintaining an accurate measurement.
If you have a laser tape measure the process of analyzing the large spaces becomes much easier, especially in room full of stored items or furniture.
